Today is my stop on the Extraordinary Girl blog tour. It’s the last day of the tour, so I’m very happy to add my shirt to all the cuteness that has been on display this week. Don’t forget to read the rest of this post, because besides a sweet shirt there’s a great giveaway in it as well!
Extraordinary Girl
The Extraordinary Girl is a pattern by Filles à Maman. Yes, you’ve heard the name before, I made her Clara Dress and her Mimi Top as well. This pattern is available for ladies and girls. It’s a lapped shoulder shirt, available in sizes 12 months to 14 for girls and XS to XXL for ladies. It has two sleeve options, full length or – if you’re feeling like spring already – 3/4.
The shirt has a subtle rounded hem, creating a slightly lower back panel.
The front panel consists of two parts, a yoke and a bodice part. This of course gives ample opportunity for colourblocking! The pattern comes with a small front pocket as well, however, front pockets are like buttons to me: I love the idea and I adore them in other people’s projects, but dislike them on my own creations.
I made a size 2 for our toddler, based on her chest measurements. She’s not very tall yet, so I took almost an inch off the length. Now the fit is perfect.
These small sizes, especially in colourblocked garments, take hardly any yardage at all! I was able to upcycle this one. The heavy black and white striped knit is from an old skirt of my mother’s. The grey stretch velvet used to be a tunic of my own, previously seen here. I made a stain in the tunic that didn’t come out, so I decided to use the soft and comfortable fabric for another garment…

Great review! I want to know how you get your little to sit reasonably still for the lovely pictures. She’s a doll.

Thank you Maria! It helps that she likes to imitate her big sis 😉 And if that doesn’t help, some fun props or a chocolate reward sometimes do the trick!

Your daughter is so adorable! I love the colorblocking!
Nienke says
Thank you Karly! The colourblocking on the front bodice is included in the pattern, makes it really easy 😉
