Remember our themed month of January, where we hosted a sewalong and blogging mini series on textile decoration in our Dutch Facebook group? Well, this month our Facebook group will be all about animal prints! Today I’ve compiled some inspiration from around the web, with links to the specific pages below each photo, so you can get in the mood to take a walk on the wild side!
Animal Print in Kids Clothes
For starters, the cute pink sweater above. It is sewn by the Danish blogger Line, from the blog Marapytta. The blog is in Danish, but she shares photos of some lovely handmade items there, so it isn’t too much of a problem that most of us won’t understand the text. Google Translate isn’t a big help either, sometimes even a totally foreign language is easier to understand than their text in your own language…
A cute giraffe hoodie, sewn by Cheryl from Sew Can Do, complete with tail, ears and those weird antler-like things on top of the head of a giraffe. She did a great job in creating a costume that is wearable in everyday life as well.
Another Danish creation, this amazing zebra dress by Trine from the fabulous blog Groovybaby… and mama. She shares many more projects in animal print, for herself and her four kids, in a gorgeous Scandinavian style: clean lines, basic prints and beautiful materials. Don’t forget to take a look at the shoes her daughter is wearing, more often than not, those are a perfect match with the outfits!
If you’re not sure about animal prints for your kids, you should take a look at the creations in bright coloured animal print over at Delia Creates (pictured above) and Baste+Gather (pictured below). If the yellow zebra swimsuit doesn’t make you long for summer… Delia has a complete tutorial for the swimsuit on her blog, so even if you’ll skip this animal print thing altogether, it’s worth taking a look!
The purple leopard sweater, sewn by Lauren Dahl, is one of my alltime favourite patterns: the Bimaa sweater. I made at least eight of them so far and am sure there are many more to come.
Animal Print in Women’s Clothes
For women’s clothes, I love leopard! Above a pencil skirt I made a while ago and have worn to pieces. Literally to pieces, so I think I’ll repurpose it somewhere this month…
This pony hair zebra envelope pouch is a totally different category of wearable, I’d love one of those! Such a small eyecatcher would be a perfect match with my almost completely black wardrobe. The pouch was made by Stephany from the Etsy store Arebyc Design.
Slightly more room for my stuff in the foldover clutch above. This one comes with a complete tutorial as well, over at Extra Petite.
Animal Print Haberdashery
If you’re new to using animal prints, maybe you’d like to start small by using the cute haberdashery below. The piping and bias tape are from Fournituren.nl, the elastic is from Ribbonaira on Etsy. They would give an amazing animal finish to any basic sewing project.
So, how do you feel about animal print? Do you like it? Love it? Hate it? I’d love to see your creations! For those of you who are part of our Dutch Facebook group, you can upload your creations in our sewalong photo album and you could even win a gift card for Joyfits fabric store!
