Today I’m part of the “Not Just A Sunsuit” blog tour, to celebrate the Paneled Sunsuit pattern by Designs by Call Ajaire! The Paneled Sunsuit is Ajaire’s first “real” pattern, with many sizes and a whole load of options, so I was happy to join her tour on this one. Read on for more on the pattern, a giveaway and a discount!
The paneled sunsuit
The Paneled Sunsuit comes in sizes Newborn to 12y. The basis is a jumpsuit with elasticated shoulder straps, thus easy to put on and pull off without zippers, buttons or other delays. The name refers to the small inserted panel on the top front (optional also on top back), opening up loads of creative options of course, from colour blocking to using treasured scraps. However, that’s not all that’s to it. The pattern includes options for a playsuit, with shorts instead of pants, for separates, so top and pants instead of all sewn together, a dress version, either short or long, and separates for that one as well. The number of possibilities seems endless!
Eindeloze mogelijkheden!
That immediately was the hardest part: what to choose?! The pattern includes clear drawings of each option though, so at least you know what the options are. The many different pattern pieces are clearly labelled and included in tables to tell you what to cut for which option, so after taping the pattern and picking your options, the hardest part is done. Since summer is almost over here, I went for a back to school look, so no shorts, though that one is really cute as well… This way, she can play around easily, but since it’s all elastic, it’s no problem for her at preschool to swiftly go to the toilet. As can be seen on the pic above, I omitted the back inserted panel, making the back bodice in one piece instead.
Naval colour scheme
Of course I used my favourite colour combination, navy and white, and my favourite print: stars! Both farics are from my stash, the navy cotton is a leftover from this prize-winning dress. The navy star cotton can be seen on the cover of my Hiekka skirt pattern. I bought yards and yards of it a while ago and am still in love with it! On this sunsuit, I used it for one side of the elasticated shoulder straps, for the pockets, for the front decorative panel and for the lining. Stars peeking out everywhere!
The instructions for sewing are perfect, it doesn’t take as much time as you’d expect and Ajaire patiently takes you through each step of the process, leaving you with a nice and neat finished product in the end.

I love those stars! 🙂 The jumpsuit looks so good on her! It’s adorable with the long sleeved tee underneath too. Thanks for showing us this look!

Thanks for letting me sew your pattern, it’s sooo cute Ajaire!
Emi says
I’m loving the stars!! I really like it with the long-sleeved tee underneath. We’re going to have to do that when the weather cools down. 🙂
Nienke says
Thank you Emi! I initially wanted to make her a cardigan to cover up, but since I loved it to be onepiece, that would cause trouble when she had to go to the bathroom… So this wasn’t my first option, but I love the fresh look!
Olu says
Your version is great. Arghhh!! I just need more time so that I can make one too.
Nienke says
It’s a lovely sew Olu, not as timeconsuming as it seems! But that being said, 24 hours is just not enough in a day, I know… So many awesome patterns, so little time!
Lisa Mabey says
So cute! I’ve been avoiding jumpers for the toilet issue but this one looks easy enough to work with.
Nienke says
Thank you Lisa, it does indeed goed on and off easy enough with the elastic straps! And I saw the sleeves add-on pass by this week, with elastic as well, that would be amazing for winter as well…
