Today I’m joining the Sew Long Summer Series, more specifically the theme Fabulous Fall, on how to transition from summer sewing to fall… Guess what I made?!
Fabulous Fall
For the Sew Long Summer series, I was quick to choose the prompt “Fabulous Fall”. Though I love summer and enjoy spending time in the sun and at the beach, I usually prefer fall. I love the crisp and bright sunny fall mornings, but even the typically Dutch stormy days… So I decided to pick a summer to fall outfit that works for what we love to do in the fall: play around in dunes and forest!
Dyyni Skirt
The basis for the outfit is – of course – my own Dyyni skirt pattern, which is still available with a discount of 25% today with code DYYNILAUNCH25. Since the pattern launched a week ago, all my test versions were meant for summer. However, to make it more of a fall skirt, I made it in black and white. I made the double layered version with a knit waist band, in size 7y. The top fabric is a black and white flower cotton, the bottom layer is a plain black cotton.
Instead of wearing it as is, with just a top, for these days we paired the skirt up with black tights, black warm boots and a black turtleneck. Perfect to play around in!
What are your plans for fall sewing?
And do you see the pic below? That is what our five year old boy likes to do in fall, when he has to wait for his sister to pose for a photoshoot… (yes, he is the little blue spot in the top of the tree…) That’s what fall is like over here!

I’m so glad you made your new skirt design for Fabulous Fall. I struggle with making traditionally summer styles work as transitional pieces, but you’ve nicely accomplished it.

Thank you Melissa! Since summer usually looks a bit like fall over here in the Netherlands, we’re quite used to layering and such….
