Remember my friend Annika, from the German blog Näh Connection? Besides sewing, blogging and translating English patterns to German, she just opened an English shop as well, selling English translations of German patterns! That opens up quite some possibilities, doesn’t it?! One of the items is the pattern Just Another Tee, from Schneidernmeistern, and I couldn’t resist sewing one up.
The Just Another Tee immediately caught my eye. It’s a basic pattern for a slouchy shirt, with a subtle high-low-hem and dropped shoulder seams.
The neckline is deep and round, which I emphasized by not using the neck band that the pattern describes, but simply hemming the neckline. I like the casual look of the hemmed neckline, but also I used an extremely thin and unstable knit from my stash, that didn’t have enough stretch and body to be made into a neck band, but also was too light to add a neck band of another fabric to. However, I love deep necklines and this way I can just show a tiny peek of the lace of my cami and add a bit of extra to a basic shirt.
Using a fabric from my stash wasn’t a coincidence by the way, mutual friend Olu, also part of this blog tour, challenged me to use just my stash for the remains of 2016. This didn’t come out of the blue, she was quite shocked by the size of my stash… So, with the exception of free fabric, ribbing and fabric to showcase my own patterns on release, I’ve committed to using just my stash for the next three months. Since my stash consists of at least ten huge bins of fabric, this shouldn’t be too hard. However, new and shiny fabric always is sooooo attractive! I was browsing for some bamboo jerseys that would have been lovely for this pattern as well, so maybe next year…
My unstable knit isn’t the prettiest at the back hem, the outward curve of the hem didn’t work well with the hem in the thin knit, even though I pressed it extremely, the hem still keeps flipping outwards. A less flimsy fabric wouldn’t have that issue though.
The relaxed fit and thin fabric combined, make for a very comfortable item. And since the stripes work well with my nearly all-black wardrobe, this shirt – though modestly called “Just Another Tee” – will get a lot of wear!
